The inspiring Spanish anarchist collectives: Look what we must do!

From resilience dot org by Ted Trainer

We are entering can era of severe scarcity in which centralised and top-down systems will fail to provide for us and we will have to develop cooperative and self-sufficient localized economies. The achievements of the Spanish anarchist workers collectives in the 1930s show what miracles ordinary people can do.

July 15, 2023

Some might experience we live in dystopian times.

The last 3 years weird alliances made by hate and oppression have arised, and today a talk organized by the CNT Barcelona has showed how anarchomachos and internal hierarchies can’t exist in anarchist spaces.

Obituary: Agustin Torres Ramos

Article published in Rojo y Negro nº 377, April 2023

(Madrid February 1, 1924 – January 30, 2023 Valencia)

As a child he had to suffer the cruel War in Madrid besieged by bombs. His father, a railway CNT member, was on an armored train picking up the militiamen wounded at the front. At a very young age, he began working as an electrical technician and joined the clandestine CNT in 1943.

We interviewed Alejandro Civantos Urrutia, a researcher who specializes in anarchist books. We talked with him about his work "Leer en rojo. Auge y caída del libro obrero (1917-1931)" [Reading in Red: The rise and fall of the worker's book (1917-1931)] , published by the Anselmo Lorenzo Foundation in 2017; an essential book to understand the importance of anarchist books, and the key role of anarchist culture played when it was at its peak.

Anarchists in the CNT Congress

"There's even bald people in the CNT." [Picture note in the original text]

From A las barricadas by Acratosaurio rex, English translation by Anarchist News

I think anarchists, before resorting to gathering for the sake of gathering, which is like an ethnic and very prehistoric thing (searching for anarchists just because they’re anarchists), should make an analysis of their local reality, look for a concrete objective (susceptible to broadening and modifying), and based on that, look for people with common interests to launch the attack.

Adios, Amigo. (Brian Bamford, 12/14/40 - 2/18/22)

http://northernvoicesmag.blogspot.com/2022/02/adios-amigo-brian-bamford-...

Although I was expecting it, it is still very sad news to hear of the death of Brian Bamford, at 81. He died at home in the early hours of last Friday morning (18th February) after a long illness. [...] In his younger days, Brian had been a Young Liberal. I think he once told me that what had drawn him into anarchist politics, was a book by the Russian anarchist, Prince Peter Kropotkin, called 'An Appeal to the Young', which had been circulated by the Young Liberals. [...] Brian was a great influence on me and I learned a lot from him. I had known him since my early twenties and we collaborated closely for over forty years. I will remember him always with the deepest affection. Adios, Amigo. RIP.
