From IGD

In this episode of the It’s Going Down podcast, we spoke with Frank, an ER doctor in the Northeast, who also is involved with the autonomous anti-capitalist space, Woodbine, about the coronavirus, how medical workers are dealing with the stress of the pandemic, the State’s response to the outbreak, and how we can respond.

Report from Greece on the Corona-Virus Dystopian Reality

from anarchists worldwide

While in Greece “states of exception” have not been uncommon –on the contrary, more or less we have been in an extraordinary, emergency regime of extreme austerity and repression due to the “debt crisis” since 2010– the recent biopolitical management of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic by the government seems to be increasingly authoritarian.

Stay at Fucking Home

Stay at Fucking Home

From Freedom News UK

I have been at home for 12 days. I live with someone vulnerable and we have been isolating ourselves as best we can since I realised that going to work wasn’t worth the risk anymore.

Today we went for a drive, never getting out of the car, just driving around with the windows closed looking out at the world we’ve had to give up for a while. It was full of people. They were everywhere wandering around the streets, hanging out in the park and generally acting like there isn’t a pandemic happening. Even though I’ve seen pictures online of busy markets and high streets and parks full of picnics I was still shocked. And then upset. And then furious.

From supportericking.org

We have word from Eric. FCI Englewood has cancelled visits for 30 days. However, staff has yet to wear masks into the facility. With the BOP on a hiring freeze, it is going to get really interesting if prisoners start to get sick. The BOP has issued a statement saying that attorney visits are also suspended for 30 days.

TOTW: Same Pandemic, Different Day

Heading into the second week of this oh-so-euphemistic Shelter-In-Place, I want to look beyond the immediate boredom and struggle of confinement. When we finally emerge from this enforced hibernation, what will the world look like? I imagine pretty much the same, but with some temporarily clean-ish air and maybe some more empty-ish streets. I also foresee a lot more of our friends unemployed or at least more precarious.

An Anarchist Perspective on the Coronavirus Pandemic

An Anarchist Perspective on the Coronavirus Pandemic

From Anarchists Worldwide, Chile

On a particularly chaotic Friday afternoon, Piñera inaugurated the nationwide chain reaction to the pandemic. Since the beginning of March, fear of the virus has slowly entered the conversation: between the agitated return to classes that seeks to be a replica (like an earthquake) of the October Revolt, the massive feminist demonstrations, the radicalization of the reactionary sectors and the imminence of the plebiscite, it is taking on more and more importance.

Corona Virus and the Myth of Institutional Failure

From IGD

Last week, in a class I teach, we were discussing the concept of “posthuman suffering,” which can be understood in two different ways. In the mundane sense, it is the experience of a negative emotion resulting from our dependence on technology and especially when a technology fails. For example, if you must complete an online task for work or school and the internet goes out, you may feel frustrated, irresponsible, or inadequate, despite the fault of the situation and your resulting emotional experience of it lying completely with the technology and not with you.

Crisis and Control

Crisis and Control

From Inhabit

COVID-19 is the culmination of a decade of contagion movies, the beginning of the worst. Every little anxiety baked into the liberal order is now being expressed with PSAs reminding us we are all vectors responsible for the spread of the economy’s epochal pandemic. Governments the world over scramble to impose restrictive measures, some ham-fisted, some half-baked, others just horrifying.

PANDEMIC!

Greetings from the heart of the North American Corona Virus pandemic-to-be! There is no toilet paper on store shelves (not even that big box ware-house store whose own brand shares a name with the city which has seen the most Covid19 deaths… (wait, is there a conspiracy here?). The pasta and canned goods are almost all gone, and don’t even think about trying to find hand sanitizer or bottled water.
