On the Anarchist Response to COVID-19

via MTL Counter-info

The Covid19 crisis has presented a challenge to anarchists and others who believe in a fully autonomous and liberated life. We write this today because we feel too many people who in better times carry these political and philosophical banners are setting aside their core beliefs – or worse – twisting and contorting those beliefs in wholly disappointing ways, conforming to the mandates of technocrats and politicians, and are convincing themselves that doing so is some grand act of solidarity with the most vulnerable people in our societies.

U.K. Anarchist Collective Explains Anti-New Normal Position

We’ve come in for a bit of criticism over the last couple of days for our views on the government response to the COVID-19 crisis. Firstly, we’d like to start off by saying that our position on the response to the crisis has changed since it started to emerge at the end of February. At that point, it felt like a massive unknown and that starting to develop our own response in terms of physical distancing and withdrawing from events we were due to participate in seemed to be the sensible thing to do.

The Center Takes the Empire: Peter Gelderloos on the Path Ahead

from It's Going Down

On this episode of the It’s Going Down podcast, we speak with long-time anarchist writer and organizer Peter Gelderloos, author of such books at Anarchy Works, Worshiping Power, and How Non-Violence Protects the State. On this episode, we look back on the last month of the Trump presidency and discuss what lies ahead now that the Democrats have won the White House and pushed for a return to normalcy on the streets. We discuss how Biden will respond to the far-Right, the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the continuing economic fallout.

Mutual Aid Does Nothing Alone: A Rebuttal to Joanna Wuest

In her article ‘Mutual Aid Can’t Do It Alone,’ The Nation author Joanna Wuest alleges that mutual aid is insufficient to support people in (and out of) crisis. She contends that while mutual aid is a useful tool, its efficacy pales in comparison to state programmes. Yet Wuest fails to engage the arguments of mutual aid’s progenitors and proponents. What results is a confused and potentially harmful perspective on a core anarchist principle that has sustained people for generations.

‘I Am An Anarchist’: Remembering Anarchist Prisoner Brian McCarvill, who Died of COVID-19 in Prison on his 68th Birthday

By MG Belka

The Oregon Department of Corrections (ODOC) does not publicly release the names of people who died from complications caused by COVID-19 while inside one of their prisons. They say this is because of the desire for transparency while respecting the privacy of the deceased. They reiterate this policy every time another prisoner dies.

A Critique of Emergency Measures that Remove Freedom of Assembly

via North Shore Counter-Info

My feeling is that anarchism in our political context is struggling to adapt itself to the times. We have always been greatly outnumbered by liberals, people who essentially trust the government to govern in the best interest of the people. In a time where the political reality has been transformed so rapidly, in a time characterized by a dizzying cascade of confusing information, misinformation, and disinformation, we are losing our way, following the liberal herd into the state-sanctioned pen. We must steadfastly affirm what our values are, and one value that anarchists have always held is that the freedom of assembly is a foundational right that must be defended.

Response to the week of revenge for comrade Michael Forest Reinoehl

Communique to the fighting comrades in so called america, from anarchist Dimitris Chatzivasileiadis, persecuted* for his relation to the guerrilla Organization of Revolutionary Self-Defense

The planned state murder of comrade Michael Forest Reinoehl reinforces our hatred towards the world of authority. In the greek territory, during the last period of bourgeois democracy, we have often experienced personified state executions by order of the authorities. From doctor Tsironis on July 11th 1978, to Michalis Prekas on 1st of October 1987 and Cristoforos Marinos on the 23rd of July 1996. Just as the greek state intended by murdering these fighters, so did the colonial state called USA, on the 3rd of September, aim to send to all the insurgents the message that nobody can surpass the iron law of the rulers’ military domination. We ought to pause for thought on these crucial matters born out of the state’s willingness to commit political murders. Such moments determine the evolution of the social movement for long periods of time.

IMMEDIATE DEPORTATION TO COPS, JUDGES, POLITICIANS

6th of December 2020

In the context of the gatherings called for the day of remembrance and struggle 12 years after the insurrection of ’08 for the state murder of anarchist Alexis Grigoropoulos by the armed hand of cops Korkoneas and Saraliotis, a new regime of state management with clear totalitarian characteristics is set in motion. Greece enforces its total ban on gatherings and demonstrations, voted a few months before under the pretext of the management of the Covid19 pandemic.

Amsterdam: Report back the solidarity protest in solidarity with the persecuted anarchist Abtin Parsa

Amsterdam. Netherlands. On Tuesday the 8th of September at 14:00 we gathered outside the IND office on the Pieter Callandlaan 1 in Amsterdam. We were there with pamphlets, banners and protest signs and some black / red flags. At that moment we were there with more than 10 people. After several minutes two bastard cops arrive on bikes, 1 of them is the neighborhood cop from police station Postjesweg and he immediately makes it clear that the protest was not registered and that it is illegal and that everyone will get a 250 euro fine. We managed to gain some time by stating that we would discuss amongst ourselves what we would do. The cop left but stayed in the area. We used this moment to continue handing out pamphlets and by continuing the protest. It was discussed that the Bastard cop probably meant what he said and that problems would be very likely.
