If you had asked people in Belarus how long the dictatorship of Lukashenko was left in early 2020, they would have looked at you like a fool. In a respected dictatorship, such questions are not asked, because you know what can happen. And in general, it so happens that the reign of the great leader is timeless. But the situation has changed so radically over the last 8 months that Belarusians took to the streets and for the first time in the new history of Belarus they fought back the police in at least 33 different cities of the country.

Fight Social Distancing – for a solidarity-based and militant approach to the virus

In this text we would like to start the attempt to find a solidarity-based but also militant approach to the spread of the CoronaVirus. It is not about an assessment of the danger or the respective characteristics of this virus. There have been and will always be new virus infections. Consequently, the current situation is not completely new. Diseases and pathogens are part of our lives, like death and society itself. We must therefore find a way of dealing with them beyond the existing crisis and panic reactions.

Crisis and Control

Crisis and Control

From Inhabit

COVID-19 is the culmination of a decade of contagion movies, the beginning of the worst. Every little anxiety baked into the liberal order is now being expressed with PSAs reminding us we are all vectors responsible for the spread of the economy’s epochal pandemic. Governments the world over scramble to impose restrictive measures, some ham-fisted, some half-baked, others just horrifying.

TOTW: Anarchist Anti-Imperialism

Anti-imperialism is a term used in a wide variety of contexts, usually by nationalist movements who want to secede from a larger body politic (often in the form of an empire, but also in a multi-ethnic sovereign state) or as a specific theory opposed to capitalism in Marxist–Leninist discourse, derived from Vladimir Lenin's work Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism. People who categorize themselves as anti-imperialists often state that they are opposed to colonialism, colonial empires, hegemony, imperialism and the territorial expansion of countries.

TOTW: Crisis

Crisis is the flavor of the week for politicians and the news media: opioids, borders, student loans, Venezuelan elections - to name just a few recent ones. Calling something a crisis does a lot of things - it mobilizes people towards a goal, opens up funding streams, allows policies to be implemented in the name of health, defense and democracy, and gets people to click on links. It’s a way to get people talking, and more importantly, to get some of them moving.

Hard Pill To Swallow: Mapping A Response to the Opioid Crisis

In the last several weeks, it was announced that people in the United States are now more likely to die from an opioid overdose than from a car accident. While this revelation is staggering, the opioid and overdose crisis in the US has been building for some time, claiming the lives of over 200 people per day according to US government tracking, and impacting communities across the country. Wanting to know more about the growing crisis, how the State is both responding to it in rhetoric as well as policy, and how communities are responding on a grassroots and autonomous level, we caught up with Codi, an anarchist and someone that works with people in recovery as an opioid specialist, on top of being someone with an intimate understanding of the crisis from her own lived experiences.
