Towards an Australian Anarchist Federation

The aspiration for an anarchist federation in Australia is as old as the anarchist movement in Australia itself. Upon its formation in 1886, the Melbourne Anarchist Club announced its intention to “promote the formation of voluntary institutions similar to the Melbourne Anarchist Club throughout Victoria and the neighbouring colonies, and, with their consent, to eventually unite with them forming the Australasian Association of Anarchists.”1 David Andare, one of MAC’s founders, wrote enthusiastically of this prospect to the American individualist anarchist Benjamin Tucker, who received his correspondence with equal excitement. As early as 1888, however, divisions would appear within this young movement, with many moving away from the individualist anarchism espoused by Andare and Tucker in favour of the anarchist communism of Peter Kropotkin and Emma Goldman.2

May Day 2023: Announcing Our Program

From Black Rose Anarchist Federation

On the 1st of May 1886, hundreds of thousands of workers across the United States initiated a general strike to demand the working day be limited to 8 hours. During a mass meeting in Chicago’s Haymarket Square, a bomb was thrown. After the resultant chaos, 8 anarchist labor leaders were jailed on flimsy evidence supposedly implicating them as conspirators. A year later, 4 were hanged to death by the state.

Report from 5th Anarchist General Forum, Cariacica, Espírito Santo, Brazil, Sept 8-11, 2022

From IFA

Between 8 and 11 September 2022, the 5th General Anarchist Forum (5FGA) took place in Cariacica – Espírito Santo – Brazil. After three years without performing it, we returned with joy and success to meet and work. The FGA is itinerant. This year we had four days with conferences, thematic tables, discussion groups, thematic groups, short courses, artistic activities and final plenary. Itinerancy confirms to be needed and important within a continental country such as Brazil.

The current state of organizing within leftist spaces is not federated. Many have tried to federate it, of particular note are the platformists who try to focus intensely on federation. However, to date organizing with the left is not organized. Therefore, a new approach must be taken up to combat the lack of federation and general disorganization found within leftist circles. Federationism provides this level of focus and organization necessary.

Neither with prisons, nor with laws...

Neither with prisons, nor with laws, fascism can be smashed only in the streets

From Anarchist Political Organisation-Federation of Collectives, Greece

On September 18th, 2013 the paramilitary squad of golden dawn proceeds to a murderous attack in Keratsini (Athens), resulting to the assassination of the antifascist Pavlos Fyssas, after being stabbed to the heart by the member of golden dawn, G. Roupakias. This was another one of the numerous murderous attacks the paramilitary gang of golden dawn made against anarchists, leftists, syndicalists, refugees and migrants, squats and self-organized and occupied spaces. Following the State’s policies and the medias dictations and protecting the Capital’s interests, the fascists always strike against the most violently exploited parts of society, against the revolutionary movements that are explicitly targeted by State’s repression.

Standing at the Crossroads

From Anarchist Communist Group

“The ACF remains a comparatively small organisation. Its desire to create or be the component of a large revolutionary organisation and movement has failed to happen. Many are put off joining a group where a strong commitment and a lot of determination are required. Many libertarian revolutionaries are as yet unconvinced of the need to create a specific libertarian communist organisation.
