Resisting the Wave of Fascism, Spring 2018

In February and March, during the run-up to the elections, Italy experienced a period of intense conflict between fascists and anti-fascists analogous to the period in the United States that culminated with the struggle in Charlottesville in August 2017. In hopes of learning from how these conflicts are playing out in different parts of the world, we reached out to our comrades in Italy to learn about the history of fascism on the Italian peninsula, the current state of the autonomous movements resisting it, and the possibilities and obstacles ahead.

In the night between 10th and 11th April the TAP began to prepare the bases for the extension of the work along the 8 kilometres of track between the thrust shaft tunnel located in San Basilio and the area designated for the reception terminal. In the early hours of the night, therefore, about forty TAP opponents gathered together.

The anarchist comrade Anna Beniamino (arrested in September 2016 in the framework of operation Scripta Manent, currently detained in Rebibbia prison, Rome) has informed us (2 April 2018) that “the inevitable loudly comments”, made during the ongoing trial for the aforementioned operation, “earned” her and Marco Bisesti (detained since 09/2016, too, currently in Alessandria prison) a couple of disciplinary reports, commuted to a few days of solitary confinement.

Italy – Updates on ‘operation Panico’

From Act for Freedom Now!

On 9th January, after about 2 years, the closure of ‘operation Panico’ was notified, so we had access to almost all the investigation files. After getting a genetics expert to examine the forensic report concerning the evidence, DNA sample-taking and relative tests, we considered the possibility of submitting a request for Ghespe’s release to the investigating judge. In fact, since the arrest was confirmed in August, the latter had put in question the accusatory framework of what, to us, seemed no more than a police reprisal along with the inevitable ROS. Therefore as a purely technical choice, we decided to request interrogations in order to slow down the judicial proceedings and the passage of the documents from the investigating judge to the judge for preliminary hearings.

Rome, Italy: Some words from prison, by anarchist comrade Anna Beniamino

There’s not much to be said about an episode of repression, after all it’s the simple cyclical occurrence of action and reaction – or even on how repression plays dirty – another well-known fact. At most these are just a few notes on the development of techniques and strategies.

This I’ll try to do. More than a year after the arrests, with the trial already underway, a crack has opened in the censuring bell jar and the court papers been disclosed in all their misery after the short report on the last issue of Croce Nera and the latest developments on the closure of investigations and the preliminary hearing.

We are enemies of power and domination. We want the end of every form of exploitation. We aim for the absolute destruction of authority and of the capitalist system. The symbols and the consequences of capitalism and exploitation are everywhere. So we just had to take a clear decision, choosing to take the side of those who are oppressed and attacking the system and its accomplices: direct action for self-determination and total liberation! It doesn’t matter how small is the action compared with the giant monsters we are fighting: it’s action and not just promises at election time, it is the proof of the fact that the fight isn’t over.

We live in a world where being connected is essential if we want to keep up with the times and keep pace with the neurotic rhythm that modern society is offering us.

Human relationships have broken up behind displays, Apps.

Without WhatsApp you risk being excluded from your group of friends… seriously.

At work, in the family, as a couple, we all need to be constantly available: “send your precise position”, “send a selfie “, “listen to this voice message”.

Italy – Issue 6 of Vesuvio libertario [Libertarian Vesuvius] is out

Vesuvio libertario is not the name of a group or its logo: these are pure media inventions. Vesuvio libertario is simply the name of an aperiodical of anarchist ideas.

It used to be distributed at the Vesuvius anarchist circle in Via Fontana 3 in Ercolano (Naples), which was sequestrated following the episodes of 15th November 2016 and given back to the ‘owner’ by the authorities. For various reasons the owner decided not to have anything more to do with us, so we declare the experience of the Vesuvius anarchist circle definitively over.

“This little book is out at last following various vicissitudes. A translation was first done in 2013 by the comrades locked up in high surveillance units first in Alessandria and then in Ferrara, awaiting trial for the kneecapping of Adinolfi. The translation was later revised and extended outside the walls of prison; we are now bringing out the final version, after more episodes of repression, between the AS2 units of Ferrara, Alessandria, Rome, with the support of some comrades of the anarchist library Sabot. A small demonstration of the fact that even the down times imposed by imprisonment and censorship can’t stop ideas and will.”

On the night of 12 February, in the vicinity of metro/bus station Ponte Mammolo in Rome, antennas and cell masts have been torched.
