Episode 7: No Back to Normal

Write an anarchist prisoner today!

from Twin Trouble

This is a special episode we’re recording for June 11th International Day of Solidarity with Marius Mason & All Long-Term Anarchist Prisoners. The twins share reflections on prisoner support in general but also in the context of the recent anniversary of the George Floyd uprising, where thousands are facing repression for fighting back against racist cops. Also plenty of thoughts on recent hacks and leaks, and the political ramifications of these high-profile ransomware attacks against Colonial Pipeline, the MPD, Citizen App, and Jones Day leaks.

June 11th Manifestations in UK

London, UK: Two Manifestations – In the Context of June 11 International Day of Solidarity with Long-Term Anarchist Prisoners

We decided to mark June 11 by calling our little ‘manif sauvage’, with two targets: HMP Pentonville and the forthcoming Google London HQ. The point of this is twofold. Firstly, to start again a trajectory which has ebbed during lockdown – that of constant antagonism at the houses of confinement. In a sense, this seems to us to be an affirmation of the sense of the day of June 11th: to clarify that any repressive installations are a part of the global self-sustaining matrix of social control and exploitation.

International Day of Solidarity with Marius Mason & All Long-Term Anarchist Prisoners

When you’re a political prisoner, the cards are stacked against you in a very purposeful way by the carceral State. Prisoners who feel isolated from their families and friends, uncared for, and forgotten, are more easily demoralized and depoliticized. For these reasons, it means so much for supporters on the outside to show solidarity with incarcerated comrades by maintaining contact through letters, sending books, and raising funds for their commissary needs.

Rail disruption in solidarity with imprisoned anarchists

Using copper wire we sent false signals on five sets of freight trains tracks around Cincinnati, ideally delaying or stopping all rail traffic that day. We want to acknowledge the sacrifice of imprisoned anarchists and our desire to halt industrial society.

On this episode, first we bring you an interview with Lauren Swain, the partner of anarchist prisoner Sean Swain who currently has launched a campaign in order to help them hopefully transition out of prison later this summer. We discuss Swain’s case and his amazing life, his journey to anarchist politics, and the repression he has faced as a politicized prisoner.

Update from Jennifer Rose

Write an anarchist prisoner today!

from June 11th

I’m always busy answering a stack of mail, reading books/zines, and pursuing my legal campaign for Executive Clemency/commutation of sentence, and to challenge the unfair parole denial and housing discrimination. I recently hired the National Clemency Project to help prepare my commutation application packet. I need support letters!

Making Links: June 11th, Long-term Prisoners, Anti-Repression Work

June 11th is the international day of solidarity with Marius Mason and all long-term anarchist prisoners. This year we want to explore the connections between long-term prisoner support and anti-repression efforts around recent uprisings, a sharp reminder to us that the difference between a status of imprisoned or not is often tenuous and temporary.

Statement from John Paul Wootton

From June 11th

June 11, 2021 statement from John Paul Wootton

I suppose my story is far from usual. It begins as a teenager, not yet 18 years old and angry at socio-economic conditions within his community.Growing up in working-class Irish Republican areas, it was inevitable that I would be intensely exposed to that ideology and its propaganda. It claimed that all the ills in Irish society could be blamed on British state interference and that only an independent socialist state could offer a solution. The history, the romance, and the already strong presence in the community were hard to resist. I had found my answer.

from June11

June 11, 2021 statement from Thomas Meyer-Falk

This makes June 11 all the more important. The day gives individuals a face, a name, it brings people into the public eye. It gives strength. It sends a signal of courage and determination. The day proves that there are people who care about the fate of those who have been locked up for a long time and who want to fight for change.

International Day of Solidarity @ Prisoners, June 11, 2021

from june11th received via email

Against another year of state encroachment, against the restriction of free movement under the auspices of “safety,” against the continued brutalization of our friends in prison, we call for a renewal of solidarity on June 11, 2021: International Day of Solidarity with Marius Mason & All Long-Term Anarchist Prisoners. For 17 years, June 11th has been an occasion for celebration, mourning, and revolt. It has been a moment to breathe, to remember those fallen and those in cages, to remind ourselves of why we remain committed to the Beautiful Idea of anarchism.
