LLMs are not AI

Open-source practices can be enormously valuable to anarchists. They facilitate cooperation, make technology more accessible and modifiable, and can undermine proprietary monopolies. But there is nothing inherently anarchist about the label “open source,” and treating openness as an absolute moral principle can obscure the relationships of power surrounding the labor that produces things.

I've been seeing more and more people insist "AI is just a tool, capitalism is the problem"...

OK. A tool for whom though?

AI wasn't invented when capitalism went hunting for a “neutral” technology to misuse for evil. Capital develops and deploys destructive technologies according to capital's own needs: extraction, commodification, surveillance, control, and making everyone more economically useful and subservient to the ruling class.

Capitalism is always restructuring itself. We all know this, and it is why analyzing and creating proposals for struggle is an ongoing process, never something that can be fully concluded. So in a sense, change is the only constant: a comforting story for a world that is often disorienting. And yet, capitalism, as simultaneously an economic and technological system, goes through phases that might last more or less long and that create a sense of stability within them: the more things change, the more they stay the same (again, as we are told).
