Vetriolo — Anarchist paper — Issue 2 — Autumn 2018

From contra info

It’s been a long while. After a year we are publishing another issue of Vetriolo, issue number 2. We haven’t brought out the paper more frequently up to now, nor have we wanted to. Not that we didn’t have anything to say during this time, on the contrary. However we have never strenuously followed the possibility of giving a strict periodicity to the publication, which because of its form (with fairly concise texts of agitation, analysis and topicality as well as more extensive and complicated theoretical articles) is not suited to it. At the same time we’d like the paper to come out without long delays. In any case we think that this paper is an important instrument for the anarchist movement regardless of the frequency with which it comes out. The pages of Vetriolo have always been and will continue to be a means aimed at discussion, dialogue and confrontation among anarchists. The paper will continue to give time and space to dialogue and debate among revolutionaries, including those who find themselves imprisoned. In this issue there are writings and articles by Marco, Anna and Alfredo, imprisoned following the arrests of the repressive operation ‘scripta manent’ of 6th September 2016.

Concerning a farce

No, the current times are certainly not favourable towards ideas. Flattened by technological prostheses, hollowed by the lack of a horizon totally other and emaciated by the devastation of interior worlds and of sensibility, our contemporaries are not very keen on ideas. They prefer chatter, they repeat what is told to them, they display their opinions... all very different from ideas, those “armed thoughts”.

Avoiding the Pitfalls: A Guide for Anarchists

Anarchists have appeared in the corporate media a lot this year, from the first breathless reports on resistance to the rise of the far right to recent appearances in the fashion pages. But not all visibility is good visibility. The Trump regime is looking to popularize an image of anarchists and other activists as a major threat to public order in order to legitimize further crackdowns; fascist organizations have worked hard to capitalize on a media profile of “antifa” as violent and mysterious in order to draw more people into their ranks. Corporate media outlets like the Wall Street Journal are notorious for catering to the reactionary politics of their owners, while even the most sympathetic media coverage can be useful to law enforcement agencies seeking information to use against activists

Gatorna - revolutionary infoportal

Gatorna (”The Streets”) is an anti-authoritarian self-organized media project, which aims to inform and inspire! The site broadcasts information from different class struggles and rebellions as well as encourages revolutionary actions and revolt. Gatorna is not a place for information/news produced by mainstream media, political parties, reformist unions and similar organizations. Gatorna does not compromise with power structures but gives space to non-hierarchical spreading of information and discussions directly from the streets to the streets. Gatorna strives to spread grassroots information in a non-hierarchical way without supporting the construction of ideological dogmas and reflects a multitude of perspectives and experiences. This project is spun out of the idea that we, the radical social movements, to an all greater degree have been getting our information from bourgeoisie press rather than from our own infrastructures. That means that someone else sets the agenda for us and that our own autonomous projects do not become “real” if they do not get any publicity in the bourgeois "public" sphere. It is an impossible situation for a movement whose goals are directly opposed to the interests of the owning class.

Texts on the recent repression against autonomous media projects in France

Over the past couple of months, there have been several acts of repression aimed at autonomous media project in the territory controlled by the French state. Below are two translated texts dealing with this.

The first discusses criminal charges brought against an anarchist comrade for texts published on the long-running anarchist website cettesemaine.info. This site recently decided to stop publishing, while making clear that it is not because of the repression they face, but rather with the limits of counter-info projects and dissatisfaction with how much importance the internet is given in the anarchist space. The comrade's trial is this Wednesday, November 8, in Paris.

The second is from Indymedia Nantes about their decision to ignore a legal demand from the French cybercrime division ordering them to remove communiques about attacks and announcing contingency plans in case their site is blocked in the coming days.
