A statement like this might feel redundant, too symbolic of a gesture .Normally we don’t care too much about writing such statements but with the current situation in Gaza and the silence coming from most of the anarchists in Germany we feel compelled to at least do this.

After posting an article ever so lightly critiquing socialist organizing, we at The Nightly were shocked and dismayed to learn that people actually read The Nightly. We got several comments basically saying we were harming Palestinian liberation by questioning the means by which we achieve our ends. It’s a pretty glaring double standard, showing just how thoroughly organizing spaces have trained people to see authoritarian socialism as the default.

Interview conducted by Greek libertarian journal Aftoleksi with Jewish anarchist Ilan Shalif. Born in 1937, Shalif can be described as the living history of anarchism in Israel. He was a member of the Israeli socialist organization Matzepn. After the breakup of Matzpen, Shalif continued his activities, participating in other initiatives in Israel, such as Anarchists Against the Wall and the now defunct anarchist federation Ahdut [Unity].

On May 1st in downtown Portland, 50-60 people gathered in a black bloc at the edge of the Palestine Solidarity March, which was comprised of several hundred people. Inspired by the combative student protests all over the country, our goal was simple: disrupt business as usual; bring the war home. There is no peace in genocide.

After a police raid, detentions, zip ties, the students running the nearest Palestine solidarity encampment started negotiating with the school administration. The result: they would be allowed to maintain their encampment overnight, but they would be fenced in, cops would control the entrance, and they had to kick out non-students

The past month of Ramadan can be considered one of the most proud periods of Palestinian anarchism's struggle against the apartheid of the Zionist regime. Undoubtedly, the efforts of a large number of young people in the West Bank who left their homes and families to fight day and night and defend the cause of Palestine will not be forgotten forever. Those days full of inflammatory attacks and danger were difficult but sweet for us. Hard because of the lack of facilities and fighting against a cruel and fully armed enemy with advanced military equipment, and sweet because of the combination of fasting and jihad in the way of God. The consistent organizing that the FAUDA movement was able to do throughout the West Bank was rooted in our values of fighting from the idea of revolutionary anarchism and field action. People saw that anarchism can stand up, fight, strike, and martyr along with the resistance to fight against apartheid, and push the enemy back.
