Scarcity and Abundance Under Anarchism

Scarcity and Abundance Under Anarchism

From C4SS Rai Ling

To what extent are contemporary production and consumption trends compatible with the abolition of the state and authority in general? There are differing notions on how transitioning to a stateless society would affect the availability of the goods and services we currently produce and consume; from anti-civilization thinkers and primitivists who see statelessness as incompatible with technology, industrialized production and complex global supply chains, to transhumanists, who see anarchy as a path to increasing levels of bodily autonomy via technological innovation. It is my intention to explore this area in the following essay by evaluating the impact that anarchic, post-capitalist organizing might have on production and consumption, without making any explicit prescriptions on the content of anarchy.

The Pandemics of Capital

The Pandemics of Capital

It’s difficult to write a text like this one right now. In the current context, in which coronavirus has busted – or soon threatens to – the living conditions of many of us, the only thing you want to do is go out to the street and set everything ablaze, with a mask on if needed. That’s what it deserves.

“Stand Against Amazon and Gentrification” An Unofficial Reportback and Analysis

“Stand Against Amazon and Gentrification” An Unofficial Reportback and Analysis

New research focus : the surveillance industry

New research focus : the surveillance industry

From Ears and Eyes

When cops decide to spy on us using surveillance devices such as hidden microphones and cameras or GPS trackers, they need to get the devices from somewhere. It seems that they often buy these devices from private companies. The companies that manufacture and market those devices are part of what we call the surveillance industry.

The Tower’s Statement on Backlash after the Bernier Demo

The Tower’s Statement on Backlash after the Bernier Demo

From North Shore Counter-Info, Hamilton, Ontario (From The Tower’s Facebook)

In the few days since the counter-demo against the Bernier event at Mohawk College, there has been an intense backlash against antifascists. In particular, we see as particularly vile the targeting of an organizer based in Toronto named Alaa, who immigrated to Canada from Syria. We are enraged to see him subjected to racist insults and threats targeting both himself and his family. This backlash has latched on to a video of an elderly person having an uncomfortable few minutes and being slightly delayed. This person experienced no harm, she’s fine, and afterwards went to a bunch of media outlets where she made comments about how her interest in Bernier stems from concerns about the Middle East, specifically Syrians, and how they have different values from ours.

Building Self-Defense Against Electronic Surveillance

Building Up Electronic Self-Defense Against Surveillance

From It's Going Down

On this episode of the It’s Going Down podcast, we spoke with Bill Budington, a long-time anarchist and senior staff technologist at the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) based out of the San Francisco Bay area about government and corporate surveillance and how to build up electronic self-defense on your phone, on your computer. and to defend your data. We also got to nerd out on many applications that many of use everyday; from Signal to Protonmail.

Signal Fails

From North Shore Counter-Info

Signal is an encrypted messaging service that has been around in different forms for about 10 years. Since then, I have seen the software widely adopted by anarchist networks across Canada and the United States. More and more, for better and for worse, our interpersonal and group conversations have moved onto the Signal platform, to the extent that it has become the dominant way anarchists communicate with each other on this continent, with very little public debate about the implications.

Anarchy Bang: Introducing Episode Six - Technology

From Anarchy Bang
Anarchy Bang is a weekly call in talk show where we sit around the digital campfire and talk about our favorite topics. This week we will try to have an anarchist conversation about technology. It is a system, it is the decisions we make every day and it about the question of whether there is any affirmative action worth making regarding the way we manipulate the world. It also has a rich anarchist history of advocates and enemies. We ask ourselves if it is also a topic about right and wrong, and what does a post-pandora worldview look like? Extra credit this week to questions that include the Luddites as (failed?) modernist experiment, the neo-Luddites as an example of taking personal responsibility for systematic problems, and like usual Christian "lack" thinking ruining everything.
