April's Anarchist Zines & Pamphlets

"Go print some press boy, we've got wood to chop!" - John Zerzan

From Sprout Distro

The following zines were published in the broad anarchist space over the past month. We encourage folks to read, discuss, debate, and circulate the zines they find relevant. We have heard of folks using these round-ups as a way of staying informed, as the basis for sending mailings to prisons, and for reading groups.

Note: It has been a while since we have done one of these, but we will be publishing these monthly again. If you have suggestions for zines to include, please contact us.

I Am An Anarchist

from Perilous Chronicle

‘I Am An Anarchist’: Remembering Anarchist Prisoner Brian McCarvill, who Died of COVID-19 in Prison on his 68th Birthday

By MG Belka

The Oregon Department of Corrections (ODOC) does not publicly release the names of people who died from complications caused by COVID-19 while inside one of their prisons. They say this is because of the desire for transparency while respecting the privacy of the deceased. They reiterate this policy every time another prisoner dies.

Warzone Distro's List of New Zines

Greetings all!

Below are the newest zines released including the looong awaited (my bad) compilation zine "INSURGENCY: An Anarchist Journal of Total Destruction". I personally would like to thank everyone who contributed writing to that. I apologize for the delay with it. I wanted to make sure everyone had plenty of unpressured time to finish writing their contributions.

These zines below including many others will be available at the Warzone Distro table at the upcoming Green Scare Anarchist Bookfair May 11th-12.

J20 Zine Series

From CrimethInc.

On January 20, 2017, 500 anarchists determined to disrupt the inauguration of Donald Trump squared off against 28,000 security personnel in Washington, DC. That day’s clashes helped set the tone for resistance to the Trump administration; in the ensuing legal ordeal, prosecutors tried to set dramatic new precedents for repressing protest activity, but defendant solidarity completely thwarted their efforts. On the two-year anniversary of J20 2017, we published a series of articles analyzing what we can learn from the actions against the inauguration and the defense campaign that followed them. Here, we present zine versions of all those articles.

Anarchist Zines & Pamphlets Published in January

From Sprout Distro

First off, sorry for not publishing one of these round-ups for the past two months.

Second, we’d like to encourage people to get into the habit of producing zines. While the trend towards using the Internet as a primary means of communication (particularly as “outreach”) for the anarchist space has been happening consistently over the past decades, it seems that noticeably fewer zines and publications are being produced. There could be any number of different reasons for it, but we find it to be disappointing. We would hope that the lack of publishing is due to anarchists living in face-to-face communities on their own terms, experimenting in autonomy or perhaps in active conflict with the state. Unfortunately, our hunch is that anarchy is ever more absorbing the both the patterns of communication informed by social media and its underlying logic (performance, a quest for likes, an accelerated pace of tweet/retweets/etc).

Italy – Issue 3 (winter 2019) of the anarchist paper ‘Vetriolo’ is out . EN/IT

From Act for Freedom!

This is the fourth issue of ‘Vetriolo’. Four issues are certainly not a few for a publication such as this. Rather than accumulate and reinforce certitudes, we believe the paper has tried to corrode and crush them, as it posed new doubts and nourished old questions. Certainly not out of a mere taste for rhetoric or polemics, but because we think that there are always a lot of ‘knots to be untied’.
