Dear NYC @s

<table><tr><td>I'm gonna be real, I was disappointed with NYC on Mayday, really though, we could do better. Anyone who's spent more than a few minutes in the city and has even the slightest of anarchist leanings knows that the city would probably maybe totally benefit from being torn to shreds. That being said, not much going hard took/takes place at all...

I was out on Mayday, just running around and being in the streets, I honestly didn't expect too much from the daytime activities, the fuck cops/wildcat was alright and unfortunately was the hardest thing that took place all day, which wasn't that hard. The night time was totally whack. Occupy is dead, long live the black bloc. Every time there's an occupy event/action people get caught up in the heat of the moment regardless of how futile and silly trying to hold/"take" some random park in a boring rich ghetto is. Consider that the comfort of remaining static and stagnant in terms of targets and tactics (and by tactics I mean disorganized confrontations with police in which people yell while police drag people away) is getting us no where. Next time you're super enthralled in some sort of scuffle consider what it is actually a push toward instead of simply being stoked because things are happening.</td><td><img title="things. lovely things." src="http://anarchistnews.org/files/pictures/2012/sadturtle.jpg"></td></tr></...

Every boring occupy event is a moment when a bunch of police are focused on the financial district, the city is huge and all of it is terrible, there are other places one could be. The tactic of occupation and forum of the general assembly are neither effective or inherently disruptive in and of themselves, there are other tactics we can fetishize as well, other tactics to misuse and never criticize. Let's branch the fuck out.
Every other city has done some bad ass shit on Mayday, I'm not just talking about Europe and South America where kids have been rolling hard for decades, even across North America/Turtle Island kids are throwing the fuck down, but not us. 9/11 was mad long ago already; we know cops are bad news and that "security" as anything short of what we make for ourselves is a bad joke. I don't know if we NY@s need to take ourselves more seriously or take ourselves less seriously but either way we're gonna have to take ourselves somewhere if we wanna get somewhere...

tl;dr NYC step it the fuck up...

Awwwwwwww NY@s I gotta agree with this assessment, but I love you all the same. I'll always love you for Occupy and for making @ slightly less totally irrelevant and marginal.

I will bet almost anything that this person did none of the actual organizing leading up to Mayday. If i'm wrong tell me when you see me. And I don't think that organizing has to mean doing anything really other than grabbing your friends and being ready. Mayday was a disappointment in NYC, expect a real analysis of it from those of us who actually tried to pull some shit together outside of the confines of the rest of the idiocy that goes on in what passes for a milieu in this city.

Not gonna lie, I'm pretty fucking disappointed, worker, that this went up here and propaganda for the lead-up and a bunch of other tight shit never made it on here.

It's not like I tracked this critique down. Did you even submit "propaganda for the lead-up and a bunch of other tight shit"?

-- Worker

Not the OP here, but I submitted a video of a banner drop in union square two days before May Day and submitted the call-out for the Wildcat march on A-news originally. The video was never posted and the announcement for the wildcat march was never posted in the news section but despite being the only anarchist thing organized for mayday in NYC, it was instead put on the calendar function of the site, which sorry, nobody looks at. By contrast that ridiculous "FBI (faggots bringing insurrection)" thing that didn't even have a location or time was posted as a headlining news story and guess what. That "action" didn't even end up happening, AT ALL.

Sorry to say, but you A-news moderator people have been asleep at the wheel for at least a week and have been unnecessarily denying submissions left and right.

"I will bet almost anything that this person did none of the actual organizing leading up to Mayday"

There were months of circular meetings and then everything of relevance was done one week before May Day in a mad dash to make up for lost time. No one should be faulted for not going to these meetings as literally nothing of worth came out of them at all and it was only people panicking about not doing anything for months that made things come together at the last minute.

Oops, security culture.

this is the op, i did organize shit for the first, through a variety of channels, on a personal level with crew and on a larger level in terms of events and infrastructure for the day of.
Yea there's a lot of cops here, there's also a lot of city, people love to hang out downtown, have GAs and "occupy" parks, there's more to life than those three thangs...

i don't think you did or you'd know that your last sentence is almost entirely fallacious. also posting this on anews is embarrassing.

I did what now?

yeah like smashing windows, the most important thing by which we shall measure all success or failure -_-

I thought that was newspaper box throwing.

The one true path to revolution is throwing newspaper boxes through windows.

"the city is huge and all of it is terrible"
yes

okay new york here's what's up. I am moving to your city in like three years so you have that much time to fool around and never get anything done but upon my arrival things are definitely going to change. be ready.

I wonder how many of my aspiring filmmaker/artist buddies thought the same thing... Probably only all of them.

'rich ghetto'? yikes...
caspian was wrong... the authors of the 'hate + rage' call out needed 10 days, not 10 years to be embarrassed about it

YALL MOTHAFUCKAS IS WHACK! 3 SEPARATE EVENTS AND CANT PULL SHIT OFF WITH MAD HEADS? GO BACK A COUPLE YEARS WHEN LIKE 15 MOFUCKAS RAN A TRAIN ON IT. NY ANARKY KIDS TOO CLICKY PROBLY HAD AN ART SHOW TO ATTEND. YALL JUST SHOOK ONES. SEATTLE AND OAKLAND GOT THA JUICE NOW.

nyc @s always been cliquey, especially since the scene started tearing itself to pieces over 'assault' allegations

no 'allegations' about it. the scene tore itself apart about how to deal with sexual assault, period.

ah yes, "no allegations" = "it was all true."

Take the identitarian bullshit somewhere else. It's getting boring. Or go plan another non-action on fucking Mayday and fail to show up at the only anarchist march planned for the city. This power play shit is tired.

rich people tend to do that.
oh, did i mention NYC is full of rich people?

so, um yeah. why would you expect it to look any different than an episode of "real housewives" when a bunch of rich people get together and try to do anything?

they're brought up that way.

BURN NYC TO THE FUCKING GROUND.

jesus christ, why does at least one person always feel the need to bring that shit up any time anything about NYC is mentioned?! the hilarity of it, of course, is that @s are so articulate to critique the criminal justice system for putting the onus on the survivor to prove that they were raped, but have no problem with that when it comes to their buddies... fuck you and your quotation marks around the word assault, but more importantly fuck you for blaming any and all anarchist shortcomings in the city on this one issue. ugh.

CAPS LOCK IS CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL

Five stars.

occupy has always been terrible, so nothing new there..

and when you live in a city that has a police force of 30,000, you have limited options..

alas just how it is here

30,000 out of 10 million

You're thinking of the .03%. The cops are the 99%.

THE STREETS!

This post is bullshit.

Whatever city you're criticizing us from, it doesn't matter. You have far less numerous police force to deal with. It's easy to give mad props to O-town for tearing shit up (which they do), when they have like, 500 cops on duty. Not talking bad on them, but just bringing this back to reality. We have 35,000 pigs in this town. That changes the game for anyone.

Dude, the city is huge. The mobilized suppression squads cannot be everywhere. Attack on the periphery of these mass circle jerks.

NY@ go straight for the head. Manhattan is a fortress...where are the riots in Corona or Morris Park? If they're not already prepared, Mobile Command Centers and the like are going to be at the hub on Randall's. Idk I think even @s in nyc can't get past the idea of "chillin in the city" and going into Manhattan. If any Staten, City, Roosevelt Island kids are reading this, fuck shit up they'll need a boat to get to y'all..or a fuckin tram. This shit is an archipelago let's do it like Greece.

Someday I want Manhattan to look like the completely isolated and self-sufficient anarchistic chaos-towns of Fates Worse Than Death (the game) or DMZ (the comic). That is my dream.

Ryan Devereaux reported that folks were handing out black bandanas to those that showed up to the wildcat march. We always talk about doing that here, but it never happens. Were people receptive? One bandana cannot provide anonymity and may give a false sense of security. Do you feel this is responsible?

inb4 "gtfo moralizing fag"

Feel it's responsible for what? Over 100 bandanas were distributed, and people were very receptive, but most people already had them.

No one told anyone a banana was going to save them from arrest or was guaranteed to keep their faces covered the whole time, but nonetheless it provided people with more security than a totally exposed face, and we had 300 people masked up. That's a good thing.

handing them out is always a good thing.

help people be as prepared to throw down as possible. always.

Plus it saves us broke, lazy mofos the time and money finding them. Seriously, where does an armchair @ go to buy one? I need to do some shopping.

Anarchists should collect free t-shirts from wherever they can find them, and distribute them with copies of "how to tie a t-shirt mask".

When I'm trolling hard sometimes I tie my t-shirt into mask, just to get super into it. True story.

excuses, excuses. yous need to learn how to make moves. real talk.

shits fucked up and bullshit

I'm so angry I made a sign

i was so fucking enraged i sat down and refused to move!!!!

i see y u r disappointed, but Occupy is important. My opinion is tht ppl were scared to do anything because there were swarms of asshole photographers who dont care about ppls safety.

nah postmodernism brah,
it's not what you smash, it's how you smash it. if i wanted to cause max headroom, i would avoid demos entirely. i'd rather do things that will empower the hipster boys and girls to kick off, and then take off their clothes. later.
