Revolutionary Struggle members Pola Roupa and Konstantina Athanasopoulou arrested in Attica, Lil’ Lambros-Viktoras held hostage, thirst and hunger strike by RS imprisoned fighters (Greece)

International solidarity is our weapon

According to Greek media, the comrade Pola Roupa, member of Revolutionary Struggle, has been arrested at a home in the Attica region. Pola is the partner of Revolutionary Struggle member and political prisoner Nikos Maziotis and was one of the most wanted fugitives in Greece. According to media reports Pola was at the house with her young child and a 25 year old woman when police raided. The 25 year old woman was also arrested. There are unconfirmed reports that two more people may have been arrested as well. More information as it becomes available.

Solidarity with Pola Roupa and Revolutionary Struggle!

From our comrades in Greece we have learned that during the arrest of comrade Pola Roupa (member of Revolutionary Struggle and partner of the comrade Nikos Maziotis, also a member of Revolutionary Struggle), that the police kidnapped and detained her 6 year old son.

The child is being held in a hospital room under armed guard and the police are refusing to allow family members or legal representatives to see him. Although we do not know if he is being interrogated it is worth noting that it is illegal under Greek law to interrogate a minor without the presence of a parent / guardian or lawyer.

In response to the state’s vengeful kidnapping and detention of their son, comrades Pola and Nikos have begun a hunger and thirst strike to demand that their child be released from police custody and into the care of close relatives. The 25 year old woman comrade who was arrested with Pola has also begun a hunger strike with the same demands as Pola and Nikos. She is being held under guard in hospital with a serious injury to her arm.

Mobilizations in solidarity with the comrades have already begun on the streets and in Korydallos prison.

Below are the latest reports and social media posts regarding the situation that have been translated into English so far, we will provide more updates as soon as they become available.

INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY WITH POLA ROUPA & NIKOS MAZIOTIS!
END THE STATE’S VENGEFUL DETENTION OF THEIR 6 YEAR OLD SON!
LONG LIVE REVOLUTIONARY STRUGGLE!

Athens, Greece – Statement of anarchist guerrilla Pola Roupa – Starts hunger and thirst strike 05/01/17

I Panagiota (Pola) Roupa declare that I was and will be until I die an unrepentant enemy of the system. They have now put the child in the middle of this war and they punish him in order to get revenge against me. They have kidnapped my child and I don’t know where he is since our arrest in the early morning.

We are at war, it is true. But them fighting against my child, by not allowing me or other close relatives to see him and by threatening to send him to an institution, is the most despicable act in this war. Those who are in the state apparatus are worms because they are fighting against a 6 year old child.

And I want to state that I have now begun a hunger and thirst strike to demand that the child is given to my mother and my sister. As for me I will remain the enemy until I die. And I will never yield. Long live the revolution!

Pola Roupa

Act for freedom now notes:
In the early morning hours of January 5th 2017, two Revolutionary Struggle members, fugitive comrade Pola Roupa and anarchist Konstantina Athanasopoulou were captured at a southern area of Athens. Anti-terrorist cops raided a hideout with Pola and her six-year-old son inside, while Konstantina was arrested in another house nearby.

After being forcibly removed from his mother, Lambros-Viktoras Maziotis Roupas —the small son of Revolutionary Struggle members Nikos Maziotis and Pola Roupa— is being held captive inside a children’s hospital in Athens guarded by cops…

In response to this, three Revolutionary Struggle members —Nikos Maziotis, the recaptured comrade Pola Roupa and the newly arrested Konstantina Athanasopoulou— have undergone hunger and thirst strike since January 5th, demanding that the six-year-old be immediately placed with his aunt and grandmother.

Konstantina’s statement:

“I am an anarchist, member of the armed revolutionary organization Revolutionary Struggle. The only terrorists are the State and the Capital. I refuse to eat and drink anything until the child of my comrades Pola Roupa and Nikos Maziotis is delivered to relatives of theirs.
Konstantina Athanasopoulou”

Siamo in guerra. Quanto a me rimango loro nemica fino all’ultimo e non mi faranno piegare mai.

Exarcheia a few thoughts. First, the gut-level anger and loathing that the Greek state provoked by the arrest of comrades Roupa and Athanasopolou. Second is that almost instantaneous response by the community to the "incarceration" of Lambros-Viktoras Maziotas Roupas, including the torching of a police vehicle that edged to close to Exarcheia. Comrades in Thessaloniki and elsewhere torched ATMs and caused as much mayhem as possible to protest the child's detention. So, Comrades, let the Greeks show us once again how as to how the world is made. In this instance, and 2,500 years later the replacement of a system of politics and violence, with anti-politics and the unleashing of rage. Civilization deserves nothing less.
