A Filipino Anarchist Discussion about National Heroes

On December 30, the day set aside to commemorate Dr. José Rizal, scientist, author, and icon of the Philippine Republic, it is only right to emulate his example by analyzing and critiquing our society. Our contributor Malaginoo focuses on a concept that informs how we regard Rizal and his contemporaries during the ascendance of “Filipino nationalism”:

Amsterdam: Report back the solidarity protest in solidarity with the persecuted anarchist Abtin Parsa

Amsterdam. Netherlands. On Tuesday the 8th of September at 14:00 we gathered outside the IND office on the Pieter Callandlaan 1 in Amsterdam. We were there with pamphlets, banners and protest signs and some black / red flags. At that moment we were there with more than 10 people. After several minutes two bastard cops arrive on bikes, 1 of them is the neighborhood cop from police station Postjesweg and he immediately makes it clear that the protest was not registered and that it is illegal and that everyone will get a 250 euro fine. We managed to gain some time by stating that we would discuss amongst ourselves what we would do. The cop left but stayed in the area. We used this moment to continue handing out pamphlets and by continuing the protest. It was discussed that the Bastard cop probably meant what he said and that problems would be very likely.

Interview on recent Protest in Poland

From Elephant in the Room

Abortion in Poland was legal during Communism and became illegal (with a few exceptions) after the political shift to democracy. Since then, feminists have been active in resisting the abortion law but with little success in gaining public support or influencing legislation.

From Contra Info, translated by Anarchist News

Chile: Call to protest on July 2-3

We make a call for all the territory to rise in subversive initiatives to confront this passivity imposed by the State-enterprise $hile, where the political and social violence has to be a liberating element to break with the monopoly of police and military violence that holds up the chilean State. Fraternal greetings to all who fight against domination, we’ll see you on July 2 and 3 in the barricades, anti-social social war against the state and capital!

Protest: A Security Nightmare

During a recent protest in a small town we have observed terrible security practices that we would like to point out.

In general, we do not think that protests are a good use of comrades' time and energy. We think that engaging in protests exhausts activists by corralling them into prescribed march routes and coaxing them into a sense of having 'accomplished something' while in reality the have only strengthened the state by providing data about the strategies and risk profiles of activists as well as practice responding to them. We do not feel that this increases activists' freedom or political power. We are not necessarily opposed to spur-of-the-moment participation in actions as opportunities arise, but we think there are important factors to take into consideration:

Summer in Smoke

The frontlines are organized anonymously. People pay cash for SIM cards to register temporary phone numbers on encrypted messaging apps like Telegram, where individuals sign up for tasks like building barricades or disabling traffic lights. In contrast to black blocs in America, where affinity groups are based around trusted friendship networks, nobody on the frontlines in Hong Kong knows each other outside the protests.

The anti-anarchist spirit of individual violence within peaceful protests

From Freedom News UK, May 17th

John is tired of participating in peaceful protests against global warming, military-industrial complex, racism and capitalist state. He thinks these mobilizations are pointless, the enemy is not afraid of protesters, and something should be done to make the status quo tremble. He has an outstanding idea: preparing a homemade bomb! He will go to the next protest and will throw that bomb against a random public building. Likely, he thinks, many protesters will support his radical initiative and add their part to this revolutionary violence. Then, many other individuals, which are not currently in the march, might look at that violent spectacle on TV or the internet and understand that nothing could be changed without some destruction.
