From de.indymedia
Today, November 17, 2024, Russian anarchists in exile organized a bloc at the "Anti-War March" announced by the liberal opposition. We used this opportunity to:
demonstrate that the Putin regime is opposed not only by liberal forces but also by anarchists,
introduce our agenda and present an alternative to the liberal opposition,
show solidarity with our comrades fighting and dying on the front lines for the liberation of Ukraine,
express solidarity with our comrades in Russian prisons.
Among the slogans on our banners were: "Death to the Empire", "No peace under Russian occupation", "Support resistance against Kremlin", and "Зброю українцям" ("Weapons for Ukrainians").
We reject the liberal myth of a "Beautiful Russia of the Future." The experience of Perestroika has shown that changing the scenery does not bring fundamental changes in the relationship between power and the people. The empire must be destroyed to its foundations, and only then will a different world be possible on the former “Russian” territories.
We find it unacceptable to make concessions to the Russian fascist regime. Ukrainian resistance must be supported until the Russian army is completely expelled from Ukraine. Leaving territories under Russian occupation means condoning the murders, torture, rapes, and plundering of the indigenous population by Russian occupiers.
We consider the support of both military and partisan resistance against the Kremlin legitimate. At this moment, Russian expansion is the greatest evil in the region. A military defeat of Russia offers real chances for the development of social revolutions in Russia and Belarus.
Our comrades are dying on the front lines and sitting in Russian prisons. They have made significant contributions to the fight against Russian imperialism, and we must continue to remind people of their sacrifices.
We cannot name all those who have fallen in the struggle against Russian imperialism, but here are some of their names:
Maxim Naumenko, Olga Volkova, Igor Volokhov, Yuri Samoylenko, Dmitry Petrov, Ruslan Tereshchenko, Marcy, Sergey Ilychenko, Sergey Petrovichev, Roman Legar, Vladislav Yurchenko, Sergey Kemsky.
Our comrades in Russian prisons include:
Viktor Filinkov, Ilya Shakursky, Andrey Chernov, Vasily Kuksov, Alexander Snezhkov, Lyubov Lizunova, Nikita Oleynik, Danil Chertykov, Deniz Aydin, Yuri Neznamov, Roman Paklin, Nikita Uvarov, Azat Miftakhov, Ruslan Ushakov, Alexey Rozhkov, Roman Shvedov, Ruslan Sidiki.
We call on European comrades to join the fight against the fascist Russian regime. For those who claim the need to combat militarism in the current circumstances, we urge you to pay attention to the supply of components to Russia by European companies.

I think it's very important that not only Anarchists denounce Russia but An-Coms too. Of all the An-Coms I interact with all of us seem to agree that something needs to be done to separate the Russian government from the ideals they pretend to uphold.

Did you know that you can do that without jumping in bed with national-anarchists, autonomous nationalists, and simple NATO shills? Do these anarchists and an-coms you interact with also jump in bed with any nazi who shows up going "US government bad!"? And if not, why should this be any different (see for example Petrovichev and many others mentioned as the friends of the writers of this text)? Back in the old days (things appear to be rather different now) when fascists or their PR teams showed up to demos they got kicked out, and this was *entirely independent* of the fact that when they said "government bad!" they might be correct. We certainly didn't go around planting trees in their memory either.
You say that it's very important to denounce the Russian government and to separate it from its ideals that it pretends to uphold. Well here's a good example from the DNR/LNR, in the beginning of May 2021 the MGB (Ministry of State Security of the DNR & LNR) conducted a series of raids in Novoazovsk, Donetsk, and Stakhanovsk looking to hunt down trade union activists who were involved with the then-ongoing strike at the Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant. Well there you go, isn't that a perfect example of a way to separate the Russian government from the ideals it pretends to uphold? And it's a perfect example because it exactly nullifies the arguments of those Marxist-Leninists who support the DNR/LNR governments on the basis of supposedly having an anti-fascist or even socialistic character - after all, what kind of socialistic government would hunt down trade union activists for strikes?
But nobody seems to do this, in fact to my knowledge I (and a couple of my comrades) am the only one who has gone through the trouble to track down those trade union activists and read and listened to what they had to say. Others seem to have gotten no further than fawning over the most dubious characters from simple NATO shills all the way to straight-up nazis. Maybe you (not you personally, but "you" in the general sense of that part of the Western anarchist movement that finds itself in that position) should ask yourselves why that is?

Yeah... "National Anarchists" don't exist, if you believe in a nation you don't believe in Anarchy. That said, the fundamental misunderstanding people have in my area is that the state has misrepresented both communist and anarchist ideals to the point that very, very few people outside of our two largest cities (Oklahoma City and Tulsa) know anything true about either ideology. The anarchist community *knows* tankies are bad, the problem is that many think tankies are the standard for communist ideology. Outside of leftist circles you'll find almost no one who knows about Pyotr Kropotkin for example.
People think communism is inherently authoritarian and the that's only true insofar as Marx and Engels themselves were authoritarians, anarchist branches do exist because it's an economic system not a governance system. This is what I mean by seperating the Russian government from their ideals. Russia in no way holds up communist ideals and Marx was wrong about the transitionary state. People need to learn and understand that distinction.
I think the event your discussing is valuable in the larger oversight, but has there been a direct battle between An-Com and Auth-Com ideology to this point?

""National Anarchists" don't exist, if you believe in a nation you don't believe in Anarchy. "
National-anarchism is the name of a phenomenon within the far-right that adopts anarchist symbols and slogans (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National-anarchism). Of course it is not a true form of anarchism, I was just using the term in that sense (in particular I was using it in reference to Sergey Petrovichev who, before moving to Ukraine, was a member of a Russian national-anarchist group called Volnytsa).
"This is what I mean by seperating the Russian government from their ideals. Russia in no way holds up communist ideals"
The Russian government doesn't claim to uphold communist ideals though, Putin is a staunch anti-communist.
"I think the event your discussing is valuable in the larger oversight, but has there been a direct battle between An-Com and Auth-Com ideology to this point?"
I'm not quite sure what you mean by this question? The events of the Makhnovshchina could be seen (in part) as a direct battle between anarchist and Leninist communism. But as far as I see it, the whole question of the current war isn't so much about an-com vs auth-com ideology. The whole concept of "turning the inter-imperialist war into a revolutionary class war" is shared by both anarchists and Leninists (this was also the position of both in WW1), it's more that in both the anarchist as well as the Leninist movements you have tendencies that have abandoned this position of revolutionary proletarian internationalism in favour of various shades of bourgeois nationalism or social chauvinism. Lenin himself was strongly opposed to this sort of social chauvinism, so considering it as an inherent part of auth-com ideology just wouldn't be correct - in fact most of those trade union activists I mentioned are Leninists, just ones that haven't abandoned their principles of revolutionary proletarian internationalism.

"Putin is a staunch anti-communist", since when? He's proclaimed before how he wants to return the KGB to it's former glory and restart the Soviet Union. Marxist-Leninist Communism is the cornerstone of the propaganda Russia uses, a dictatorship of the proletariat can never succeed because no state will ever willingly relinquish power. It's for this exact reason that Marx and more specifically Lenin, had been denounced. Kropotkin himself said "Revolutionaries have had ideals. Lenin has none. He is a madman, an immolator, wishful of burning, and slaughter, and sacrificing", in fact communists descending from the authoritarian line of thinking have consistently betrayed the anarchist cause by pretending to be allies only to switch up later and lead a mass slaughter of Anarchist forces. Anarchist Communism is built on entirely different foundations set by Kropotkin. Leninism, Marxism, Maoism, they're all fundamentally incompatible with anarchists who have ancom, syndicalism and mutualism.

I can look at the Russian's government's behavior and it's plain to see that whatever vision the Bolshevik Revolution had was ultimately co-opted by fascists. I haven't made it as far as Lenin, but I have made it through Marx and know full well the flaws within the ideology, namely, statism. A core lack of understanding that no government will ever willingly relinquish power.
Lenin by extension was known for being even more statist and Stalin was by far even worse.
I've read Kropotkin enough to understand how anarchists of Lenin's time thought he was a counterrevolutionary. I expect that having a basis for discussion leads to more discussion, which can teach me what I don't already know.

Russia doesn't have a dictatorship of the proletariat, Russia has a dictatorship of the bourgeoisie just like any other capitalist country. Marxism-Leninism is also not the cornerstone of the propaganda Russia uses, not at all, have you ever actually seen ML propaganda? I'd suggest you read some propaganda by ML groups and compare it to the propaganda of the Russian government. Sorry but these claims of yours just seem confused. If Russia were Marxist-Leninist they'd expropriate the bourgeoisie and institute State control over a centrally planned economy.

If you ask any tankie it does. ML's aren't interested in truth, hints why they scream "Liberal" or "Western Imperialism" anytime someone challenges Russia's morality. Russia is as close to Marx's vision as it's ever going to get because Marx allowed the state to exist. No government in all of human history has "withered away" as Marx claims the state will after his revolution.
Communism is a good ideal, as long as it's coming from an anti-state perspective of rationality. I've met very, very few rational Marxists.

You are talking abject nonsense. The largest ML party here in Europe is the Greek KKE, here you can find their position on the war: https://inter.kke.gr/en/articles/Two-years-of-killing-people-for-the-ma…
I'll quote some parts for you: "The governments of Zelenskiy in Ukraine, supported by the US, the EU and NATO, and of Putin in Russia, supported by the emerging Eurasian imperialist camp led by China, are the expression of such capitalists.", "The KKE has explained in detail the causes of this bloodshed, rejecting {...} the pretexts used by the Russian leadership to justify the unacceptable military invasion of Ukraine, such as waging an “anti-fascist war”, “defending the Russian-speaking people”, or “demilitarizing Ukraine” etc
"Russia is as close to Marx's vision as it's ever going to get because Marx allowed the state to exist."

Let me quote this one too, regarding your claims that the Russian government appeals to Leninism: "In addition, the anti-communist rhetoric against Lenin, the Bolsheviks, and the Soviet Union to which the Russian leadership resorts to justify its own strategic plans in the region, is unacceptable."
Again, you're talking abject nonsense. Maybe you should read the actual declarations of actual ML parties instead of random twitter accounts with Stalin profile pics to learn about the positions of Marxist-Leninists?

In reply to Disgrace. by anon (not verified)
I came to understand the bulk of the anarchist “movement” or whatever a lot better in the course of reading about radical movements in general and one of the things that stuck out was how radicals are often inheriting their parents’ ideals but pushing them in a more extreme way, criticizing the older generation mainly for hypocrisy.
Example 1: the Hilltop Youth militant ultra Zionist /monarchist/theocratic terrorist movement. They are the children of the settler generation of post-1967 and think their parents are betraying the biblical cause by simply settling in American-style suburban communities, rather than going out to attack their perceived enemies and establish new settlement outposts, as they do.
Example 2: This sounded pretty familiar to me because a lot of anarchists are from middle class liberal homes which I do think it goes a long way toward explaining the culture and character of a lot of anarchists, who often seem to be addressing a perceived broader liberal-progressive milieu who mainly need to be shown that more militant tactics are needed to obtain things like freedom, equality, and whatever other ideals are central to democratic capitalist ideologies. The way their activism and propaganda often focuses on the issues du jour of the mainstream liberal press, with a more “radical” spin maybe, generally seeming to think that liberals and leftists are “more on our side” than the right. Of course issue-chasing shows an analytical shallowness that goes beyond mere liberal heritage, but in some ways it’s coming from very much the same place, even literally.
nice observations.

nice observations. unfortunately it's pretty hard to sell abolition of everything to people who can just get jobs and pay mortgages/or ask their parents for a down payment. i think nihilists will always be/need to adopt strategies reflecting the fact that they cannot entice liberals, conservatives, or leftists. after the single issue stuff is done for the day, they're all gonna look for someone from their own numbers who didn't toe the line enough to imprison, fine, or lynch
perhaps this means "no strategy" or perhaps it means dropping out of venues of discourse is not so bad...

I don't think abandoning mobilizing and especially that mass-outreach obsession is as dramatic as it looks from that anarcho-liberal perspective. It's actually beneficial to reframe ourselves and redefine what the priorities are. My preference would be to start societies (or bolos?) from the "ground up", and quit caring about appealing to so many people who don't give a shit about you.
