The phrase "The Dirty South" and a faint circle-A imposed over an image of a swamp, in monochrome green.

The Dirty South is a counter-info site that focuses on anti-colonial and anti-authoritarian action in the geographic southeast of the so-called U.S. In service of this, we accept and repost communiques, reportbacks, analysis, research, calls to action, art, events, and publications, as well as mainstream news articles about unclaimed attacks.

Who is this resource for?

This resource is for those interested in rupturing the settler-colonial project—those fighting it, those seeking inspiration, and those craving to learn and share new ways of struggle. We especially want to provide a platform for struggles in the geographic southeast of turtle island—the region that carries the historical baggage of the “South”. This area roughly refers to occupied lands south of the appalachian foothills of so-called northern kentucky, west of the so-called atlantic ocean, east of the so-called mississippi river, north of the so-called gulf (so-called florida and louisiana) and so-called texas.

Why we think this is worthwhile:

The counter-info site Scenes from the Atlanta Forest, which published actions, educational resources, discourse, and calls to action relating to the struggle against Cop City in so-called atlanta from 2021-2024, was an important resource for our region (and for the anarchist movement more broadly). The decision of the Scenes admins to end the project this past November left anarchist and anti-authoritarian militants without a regionally-specific platform to anonymously share communiques and other information. We feel called to step up and fill this role.

The “South” often has the reputation of being a particularly reactionary, fascistic, and hostile place. But the brutality of this region has always been always been matched by the fierceness of those fighting against the social order from below. We seek to ground contemporary insurrectionary struggles in legacies of Black and Indigenous resistance and attack: the countless wars fought by Indigenous peoples against colonial expansion; the maroon communities which provided avenues of escape, survival, attack, and revenge against the plantation system; the slave rebellions that brought to life the darkest nightmares of the slaveholding class; the labor strikes and class warfare carried out by the most downtrodden workers; the riots and liberatory struggles of the sixties; and more recent prison riots and uprisings against the carceral system. An unbroken lineage of resistance carries us into the present moment and our struggle to stem the tide of fascism, and to thwart the intensifying efforts of the forces of domination to stamp out any possiblity of a free life.

In solidarity,

Dirty South Admins

1. Why is the gulf "so-called"?
2. Would be nice to have some hosted somewhere other than noblogs since we know they comply with state pressure to take things down under some circumstances (Scenes, at least a couple italian language blogs...)

1- A "gulf" is usually just a spook. There's little difference in the oceanic systems between a gulf and a neighboring sea... it's not like there's some physical wall straight in the ocean where you can tell the SO-CALLED gulf starting, away from the sea... while there's often differences in seafloor depth, but I'm getting boring now. It's just a concave recession of land, like a bay. Same thing for straits. Same damn waters!

Scenes did not accuse noblogs of caving to state pressure and explicitly warned against saying so. Scenes specifically said that they were aware of the risk of publishing a list of state and corporate dox and were warned that their site may be taken down for doing so and made the principled choice to do so again after those warnings. And AGAIN published that noblogs did notndo anything wrong in upholding their TOS. Scenes signed off WITH THEIR CANARY ALIVE.

Idk what Italian blogs you are referring to, but given what you "know" otherwise I doubt it is a big deal they were taken down.

The literal first line of your link reads:

*ahem*

"After exhausting our legal options, Riseup recently chose to comply with two sealed warrants from the FBI".

Do we really live in the timeline where the anon user "Emmaaintdead" (she's very dead) is insisting cooperation with the FBI does not state collaboration?

"After exhausting our legal options" -> holy shit, get rekt. Did they consider exhausting a magazine into the piggies faces? You know, like actual anarchists?

Give the rest of it a read instead of throwing a hissy fit over the first line.

Not that you won't throw a hissy fit regardless, but it says more things you can misconstrue a bit and mix in even more weird macho power fantasies.

"I would die for ccers and dos skids" is a fuckin bananas position to hold and I wish you the best of luck in your TRVE ANARK armed crusade.

What would you die for, would-be anarchist?

Love the assumption that the police are invincible. Some deep internalization of the panopticon going on there.

We don't need folks like you, Emmaaintdead. We need barbarians willing to spill blood.

anon (not verified) Mon, 04/07/2025 - 17:49

In reply to by EmmaAintDead

Not sure what any of that means or who you think you're interacting with. Even if you were correct in that assumption, I guarantee you don't have a clue what that person is actually like afk, because none of your lot ever cancel people "with care" or in a way that attempts to understand them on their own terns.

I just wanted to know if any project or goal was worth that kind of sacrifice to you, the kind were people get hurt or face prison? Because perhaps if not, it says something.

Anarchism that's not willing to make sacrifices can only end up in recuperation. War can be recuperated, sure, in fact, it's fundamental in many ways; state forces can never fully contain the nomadic war machine and that ability to inject chaos directly is our biggest asset. But there are very few anarchists left making these catalyzing ruptures.

EmmaAintDead Mon, 04/07/2025 - 19:14

And yet here you are, in the same comments section as me and creating no such ruptures yourself. If this painful sabre rattling is indicative of your barbarian nomad warmind, count me out. Swinging dick on the internet over warrant canaries is some real tired shit. Beat your chest somewhere else, Randy Savage.

Some of us can walk and chew gum at the same time.

There's nothing painful about this. You're just fragile as fuck and scared of everything.

Anarchists building forever infrastructure on a giant, state-controlled dragnet is not fucking radical or subversive. It's enemy behavior

I know you're angry but I came back to say, I really don't understand your argument or the frequency with which it's employed by many people, especially leftists.

Why is suggesting that anarchism be something more about armed activity that might require sacrifice "painful sabre rattling"? Just cause it comes from me, or whoever you think i am, or is it something more fundamental?

on second thought the line "none of your lot ever cancel people 'with care'" suggests the alternative possibility that you're just a harasser mad bc he was asked to change behaviors. which... you know, same difference (see common ground/brandon darby)

hurry up with your swing to the boogaloo right so you quit cluttering anews comments with your irrelevant posturing. nobody wants to be in community with you

i think you're just a coward who is leaving all the avocation of armed resistance on the web to the far right. this is a murican website, and as such, all references to violence are protected by the first amendement, granted they do not make specific threats of a specific date and time against a specific group of people.

you're just as likely to be some pentagon psyop discouraging the very people supposed to fight back from doing it

listen, no one ever said people should kill each other email server. the implication was that anarchists should be way more ride or die, especially about their projects. there is nothing subversive whatsoever about Riseup. it's just hipster gmail

That's how I read and interpreted the comment in question here. Anarchists who consider armed resistance against KKK police forces are surely distinct groups of people from the tech nerds anarchists who capitulate to the FBI.

anon (not verified) Tue, 04/08/2025 - 08:27

Can you fucking read, anon?

There's a very clear pattern here of misinterpreting speech, and then accusing people of being abusive over your own inept misunderstandings.

If anarchists can't fantasize about killing KKK police, who the fuck can or should? Wtf? Also, the whole further implication here is that people stuck in 'slave' or 'herd' mentality need to truly experience the depths of their ressentiment in a cathartic way before it becomes the true reaction of deed that anarchists should be embodying.

Or maybe you're just paranoid? Americans just experienced two assassination attempts wherein both attempted assailants were posting about it on mainstream social media sites for months. I don't think Kash Patel's FBI is busy reading the Anews comment section. Nothing the anon did or said here exposed them. To be honest, your sheer ineptitude and sophistry is the only embarrassing liability I can see here.

sure i'm "paranoid" ...and that abundance of caution came about because i'm not a shunned shut-in in a shack but instead someone who deals with actual systemic state repression in the movements in which i participate.

...movements in which testosterone-poisoned wingnuts who bluster about 'emptying magazines into piggie faces' in a conversation about secure email servers have no role, because their arrested-development attention-seeking behavior, apparent absence of impulse control or ability to read the room & empty bravado all mark them as liabilities.

hope that helps clear things up

anon (not verified) Tue, 04/08/2025 - 08:16

In reply to by anon (not verified)

It really doesn't. Your movements are more of a joke than the awesome and brilliant Anews commenters perceive me to be. You legitimately have no idea who I am or what motivates me. These caricatures don't even hurt my feelings any more, they're just confusing.

Your leftist movement bullshit doesn't work. Look how popular Mangione is. Stop attacking me and make a proper argument, if you even can.

By the way, testosterone doesn't poison people. You're a sexist asshole for saying that and a lot of transmascs would read this and be upset.

The comment: "[...] noblogs since we know they comply with state pressure to take things down under some circumstances (Scenes, at least a couple italian language blogs...)"

You: "Scenes did not accuse noblogs of caving to state pressure and explicitly warned against saying so."

What the post in question said: "The noblogs team Autistici/Inventati decided to shut down this blog"
https://unravel.noblogs.org/scenes-from-the-atlanta-forest-website-is-o…

The language of "accusation" is all you. Anyone is free to go read the linked post for any "explicit warnings" against claiming that A/I succumbed to state pressure. It's also worth nothing that whether or not the *Scenes* canary was alive is irrelevant to the question of whether or not *A/I* was pressured in one way or another to take down individual Scenes posts or the entire blog.

Glad this exchange happened so that people are aware of flimsy arguments that frequently pass for analysis in Anews comments.

The relevant section reproduced below:

"The noblogs team Autistici/Inventati decided to shut down this blog shortly following the republication of the Heritage Foundation dox from againstbeltwayfascism.noblogs.org and after the dox of the Elbit Systems of America. This blog hosted a great deal of antagonistic content over the years, and we are thankful to the Autistici/Inventati team for allowing a majority of the content to remain up for so long. They undoubtedly tolerated a great deal of resistance – we trust that their decision to shut down the blog did not come lightly."

Key factors playing in here are "republication" (they had been taken down prior and TOS warning was issued. Read the TOS here relevant sections 4&5) and the thanks to A/I as well as a short statement of tust in their project.

Scenes was wrapping up and decided that was a good hill to die on. It was scenes' choice how this would play out, entirely. To position A/I as somehow compromised is a disservice to scenes' exit, which was very well planned if not for the idiots using it to badmouth their host project without cause.

If scenes wanted to, they would have found hosting elsewhere. It isn't hard to do. They didn't want to. They wanted to exit on the note they entered.

why is anything "so-called"?
it is for virtue signaling. yes, there is a complex history to it all, but it is not "dealt with" with silly performative gestures.

anon (not verified) Tue, 04/08/2025 - 10:16

In reply to by anon (not verified)

As someone who rankles at all the so-calleds, it is also true that simple reminders that there are layers to where we are and what names we use is not a bad thing.

It will be more or less empty in different situations, but it's never bad.

And what's wrong with silliness and/or performativity, speaking of words we throw around without necessarily thinking about them much.
